Worksite Housing for Construction Workers
SSF has initiated a program to create worksite housing for construction workers in Ahmedabad. Through Aajeevika Bureau’s network with developers, we are partnering with construction companies and developers to design and install prototypes of worker housing at their construction sites. We are designing heat-responsive housing and structure prototypes that enable privacy and comfort, especially for women.
What we do
In partnership with developers, architecture professionals and students and fabricators, we are designing and implementing prototype design solutions for worksite housing. Facilities include:
- housing units with provisions for heat mitigation, natural light, ventilation while maintaining privacy and security;
- an integrated external plinth that includes seating and washing platforms
- adequate alley-level drainage for grey water
- a private and exclusive space for women near their toilet, called a ‘social tower’ with space for small activities and meeting
- a cooling space for rest and social interactions and respite from the extreme heat at these worksites
